-- i love this city
staring out a window
road flying beneath me
steel beasts erupting
their concrete shells hardening, becoming
overpass
warehouse
and streetlights are everywhere
we have a river
'have' because the wood, metal, and stone
that are the mark of Man
span its length
corset of boats and power lines
scruffy - a puppy trying to be a wolf
tin and brass - all shine, no value
straightlaced - chains and tattered denim
wrapping a soul in bedraggled glory
the back ways, the alleys
take a wrong turn and
suddenly
life and light and humans' spark gather
welcoming in their wandering children
i love this city
