human hands an afterthought
her mother's touch faint
fading before she first
looked, stretched,
two dark eyes meeting
endless strangers
flashing lights
metal and plastic and other unknowns' wailing

she was raised among colors
steadfast green pines
silver birch whisperings
blue in a thousand salty shades
fur, brown and tan and grey
glittering sand pouring
between tiny fingers
each sunset a miracle of hues that only she saw

she was thrust out into society
too many people
nothing singular, individuality lost
until she spoke
words, text and speech
the coin of barter in this strange world
literary efforts
discourse on a million subjects
she traded for companionship and contentment

she exists in herself
never over-full
always complete
a galaxy of those unknown souls
slowly crystalizes into constellations
her imagination, a starmap
now she savors each day
grateful for what has passed
eager to see what follows

she is no longer alone
